What is FTTP and how does it work?

It is, in essence a broadband connection utilising fibre instead of copper infrastructure with the ability for super fast speeds and more reliabilty than traditional broadband.

what is fttp

FTTP stands for Fibre to the premises and is a type of fibre optic broadband that delivers fast, reliable speed by connecting your premises directly to the network with an optical fibre cable.

This connection runs from the exchange to your business. We are including BT as our supplier (but not Virgin Media yet) making it one of the most future-proof and reliable types of broadband available.

It is the fastest type of broadband around and can provide speeds of up to 1Gbps (1000Mbps). This means that you can download files, stream videos, etc, at extremely high speeds.

The broadband speeds you can get will depend on several factors, including the distance from the local exchange, the quality of the line, and the package you choose.

How will it benefit my business?

What’s the difference between FTTP and SoGEA?

SoGEA has speed that can achieve up to 80Mb download whereas FTTP can achieve much greater speeds ranging up to 1Gb. SoGEA is more readily available though.

difference between sogea and fttp

Fibre to the premises is a complete fibre connection which comes from the exchange and runs all the way to your businsess or residential premises.

It’s not available in as many locations (yet) as what SoGEA is but the rollout of pure fibre connectivity is in full swing so it wont be long before you will have the option of both.

SoGEA does not have the speed that FTTP broadband does with the ability to get speed upto 1Gb compared to up to 330Mb with SoGFAST. SoGEA is a cost effective broadband solution but if you are in need of more power then (if it’s available) FTTP would win.

Both are  easy to install as well as been cost effective. They come with the option of using your own router or we can supply one. Both are easy to fix. Also, instead of using a copper phone line for calls, you can now use VoIP (voice over internet protocol).

difference between sogea and fttp

What’s the difference between FTTP and FTTC?

FTTC runs on old tradional copper line which will become obsolete by 2025 due to the “Big Switch Off”. FTTP is it’s “Big Brother” with full fibre and faster speed!

difference between fttp and fttc

FTTC uses fibre-optic cables from the broadband exchange to a green street cabinet. The vast majority use Fibre to the Cabinet broadband, with FTTC connections available to a high percentage of businesses in the UK but this product will be extinct in 2025.

The rest of the Fibre to the cabinet connection then relies on the same copper wires as ADSL, making it faster than a purely copper line connection, but still slower than ‘full fibre‘, or fibre-to-the-premises broadband.

It’s better to have FTTP than FTTC. This is the general opinion because it’s  a newer technology than FTTC, and as such it offers several advantages.

For example, it’s faster than FTTC broadband, with speeds of up to 1Gbps (1000Mbps) compared to FTTC’s maximum speed of 76Mbps. Still, choosing between both options can depend on your needs and requirements.

Got questions?
Well, we’ve got answers

The main reason is that it uses a different type of connection. With fibre to the premises, the connection runs from the exchange to your premises – allowing it to provide much faster speeds. With FTTC, the connection only goes part of the way – with the last bit running over copper wires. Copper connections mean that the speeds are slower.

No, copper is not used. Instead, it uses fibre optic cables – which are made of glass or plastic.  Copper network (ADSL) basic broadband access uses a copper phone line connected to the exchange. Fibre broadband is much faster than copper cables and can carry data over long distances without losing speed.

Yes, it’s is superior to ADSL broadband. This is because it offers significantly faster speeds than ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line), as well as a more consistent and secure connection. Additionally, it does not require a physical phone line to function, whereas an ADSL connection does.

The largest network in the UK is the Openreach network, which they have plans to keep increasing. They aim to make itavailable to 85% of UK premises by the end of 2025.

It takes longer to install than standard fibre broadband because the fibre optic cables need to be run to your premises fttp is a more complex process than connecting your premises to a street cabinet, which is required for standard fibre broadband.

The cost of installing Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband in the UK varies depending on the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and the specific circumstances of the installation. Some ISPs offer free installation, while others charge a fee.

You can use our FTTP checker above to see if you have FTTP available in your area. Enter your postcode, select your address, and click “Check Availability”. If it’s available where you live, you’ll see the speed options appear.

We deal with all providers for you, offer better pricing than going direct, offer more flexibility and provide better service levels. The leading FTTP providers in the UK include BT Business, TalkTalk, and Vodafone.

It depends on your specific needs and circumstances.

Fiber to the premises (FTTP) provides a high-speed internet connection directly to your home or business, which can offer faster and more reliable internet than other connection types such as DSL or cable.

If you use the internet for activities that require fast speeds and low latency, such as online gaming, video conferencing, or streaming high-quality video content, then FTTP may be worth the investment.
