Content: 7 minute read
A Point-to-Point Ethernet circuit simply links two sites together over a secure, dedicated line. This allows you to extend your business network (WAN) across two areas with a safe, fast, and reliable data transfer.
One of your decisions about your Ethernet Point-to-Point solution is the amount of available bandwidth you want. This can range from 100Mbps to 10Gbps, depending on what you need as a business.
Because you are not sharing your line with other users (it has a 1:1 contention ratio), you get guaranteed speed both up and downstream, reduced buffering and lag in video conferencing and VoIP technologies.

Our Proud Customers
If you’re looking to connect 2 of your offices together to upload and download data then a P2P connection is what you need.
The Point-to-Point circuits are absolutely perfect for any businesses that want to create a connection between two of their sites located within 25km of each other.
If you’re a business and need a dedicated connection between multiple offices or local sites, then you need to be looking into an Ethernet Point-to-Point network connection.
However, It’s also not a problem if you need to connect your offices over a bigger distance. We have another product for that, which is called a national ethernet Point-to-Point connection. This product can cover much greater distances.
So whether you need to connect two of your sites and that can be your offices or remotes locations, as you can now tell – regardless of the distance between them, we will have a product to suit your needs.
If both locations are in good areas then the costs can be extremely low. However, the more rural then the more chance of larger costs.
Unlike a standard ethernet service based on one location, Point-to-Point services rely on the availability of two places. This, in turn, makes costing a bit more complex.
However, the best guide available is simply looking at your current locations. If they are urban, then the pricing will reflect this regardless of distance, and the chances of a simple, cost-effective install here are high.
If your sites are in very rural locations with not many other businesses around them, it may be more of a struggle. There may be excess charges, or you may be lucky. The best way to find out is to get a site survey done.
We work with every single top tier provider in the UK, but we also offer a price promise customer guarantee on all our quotes for all our products. So, if you find a cheaper quote elsewhere, simply let us know.
There are many advantages to having a P2P Ethernet connection. rental costs can be low, have great reliability and the best security.
Point-to-Point Ethernet circuits have very flexible and high-speed options to suit all. They start at 100Mb between two locations going as far up as 100Gb with some carriers!
Costs: Businesses pay a fixed monthly fee based on an agreed level of capacity.
Control: Businesses can plan and control communication budgets with accessible usage and cost statistics.
Security: Secure transmissions are critical for company information. For example, a leased line cannot be accessed by other parties not specified by the secured networks.
Reliable: Fast and reliable transmission for voice, data, and video applications.
If you’re looking to connect 2 sites wherever they may be, looking for consistent performance and speed for uploading and downloading between them then there’s simply no better option.
Costs can be prohibitive if your locations are remote, there is no internet breakout and you dont have as many speed options as a leased line.
Cost
Point-to-point leased lines can be an expensive interconnection between two sites dependent on distance.
Internet
There is no internet breakout with a point to point leased line. It is simply a connection between two sites.
Management
Unlike a leased line, this service does not come as a fully managed service. This is a “layer 2” wires only presentation.
Speeds
There are not as many speed options as what there is with a standard leased line so may be restrictive to some.
Costs will always be a factor, and ethernet Point-to-Point connections are no different. However, if they are within a 25km distance, we can get some great pricing for you.
However, costs can spiral if one site is in the North of the country and the other is in the South. If these areas (regardless of distance) are built-up areas, then the likelihood of the pricing being high reduces significantly.
Internet access is also not an option here. This is purely a connection for 2 sites to upload and download data. There is also no line management, so there are no routers, and they are presented as wires only.
Speed options are very restricted, so you have 100Mb, 1Gb, and 10Gb, and in extreme circumstances, we can get access to 100Gb if needed, but please ask for further details.
Not only do we work with every single top tier provider in the UK, We also offer a price promise guarantee on all our quotes for all our products.
If you find a cheaper quote elsewhere, simply let us know. If it’s a “like for like” proposal, not only do we price match but we will beat it for you! Simply ask for more details.
