Whether it be speed, pricing, service level agreements including fix times – these are all questions that have a value to each individual so we will cover all for you below to help with your decision.

Is EFM Right For You?
EFM is known as Ethernet First Mile. It has the ability to offer your business speeds up to 35Mb which are totally symmetrical just the same as a leased line.
With pricing being around 60% lower than leased lines it also makes it a very appealing option. Lead times are also a lot quicker averaging around 45 days from order. On top of this, they also come as a fully managed service with router and 24/7 support so what’s not to like!
There is also no need to worry about excess charges which can occur with leased lines. EFM is either available or it isnt so very black and white. EFM uses copper pairs so from a resilincy perspective this is also good. If connectivity is lost to one of the pairs, the other remain live.
What About Leased Lines?
Leased lines are the ultimate in connectivity in the UK at the time of writing this. Prices have dropped dramatically over the year but they still come at a premium compared to Ethernet First Mile.
Leased Lines are completely dedicated to your business and have zero contention so the speeds you see are the speeds you will get. Unlike EFM, leased lines can be upgraded to higher speeds.
They also offer a better service level agreement comes with a 1/2 hour response, 4 hour fix compared to EFM which comes in at a 7 hour fix. They also run over fibre instead of copper wich is the best technology for transferring data.
Yes you pay a higher price but you get a lot higher grade product and on top of that, knowing that you have complete peace of mind in the fact that you can upgrade your speed if you need more.
Your internet connection regardless of whether you go for a leased line or EFM is completely down to personal preference and what suits your needs the most. To pick a winner would be shortsighted.
If you want a cost effective dedicated connection with a low price point and can cope with the lower speeds and lower service level agreement then maybe Ethernet First Mile is the right choice for you.
If you are happy to pay more and have more options available in terms of speed, future proofing your business, better service level agreements and a complete fibre solution then maybe a leased line is for you.
